About Dust

I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect - 'in case someone came over Finally I realized one day that no-one came over; they were all out living life and having fun!

NOW,when people visit,I don't have to explain the 'condition' of my home.

They are more interested in hearing about the things I've been doing while I was away living life and having fun.
If you haven't figured this out yet, please heed this advice.

Life is short. Enjoy it!

Dust if you must

But wouldn't it be better to paint a picture or write a letter,
Bake cookies or a cake and lick the spoon or plant a seed,
Ponder the difference between want and need.
Dust if you must,but there's not much time .. . . .....

With wine to drink, rivers to swim and mountains to climb,and horses to ride
Music to hear and books to read, friends to hug and life to lead.

Dust if you must,

But the world's out there with the sun in your eyes,the wind in your hair,a flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come around, again.

Dust if you must,but bear in mind,old age will come and it's not kind....

And when you go - and go you must - you, yourself will make more dust!
Enjoy this Earth and all of the adventure it offers, NOW.

It's not what you gather,but the joy you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.

I'm Hired!

After seeing several of the quilts that I had quilted for our guild's Chemo Quilts charity project, a friend asked me to quilt a gift quilt for her. And she is paying me to do it!

Raffle Quilt for Crook County Football

My son in law, Rich, is the Defensive Coordinator for the Crook County High School football team.

This summer he asked if I would make a quilt that they could raffle off to raise some money for the team. As we all know school sports and families of players are hard put to find the finances for equipment, training, and gas for the bus. I said I would give it a try. Here is the quilt that I made. It will be raffled off and awarded at the homecoming game this month. The school colors are royal blue and gold.

Next year I hope to make a cowboy themed quilt since they are the Crook County Cowboys.

Anyone want to help with the design and piecing?

Two Special Quilts

 The girls have been asking to pick out fabric and knew just what they wanted their quilts to look like.
I used inexpensive fabric and a quick simple design because I know these quilts will be used outside for sunbathing, in the play tent for games and reading, and for naps and TV with Myah the dog. The heirloom keepsakes can come later when they really want and will appreciate them.

Quilt Shack - Prineville

     Quilt Shack is a great quilt shop located in Prineville, Oregon.

They have been in business since 2008 and will be moving to a remodeled larger location, hopefully, by the end of this month.

What Not To Do When Quilting #2

     Two days ago I am quilting along getting the raffle quilt finished up for the Crook County High School Cowboys when the foot of my quilting machine bumps into something.....and it is inside of the quilt!
It was right near a pieced seam so I snipped a few threads and ended up "delivering" a pair of small scissors that I had been missing!

Great Time in Prosser, Washington

We had a great time the past several days in Prosser, Washington, with our FMCA RV group the Rimrock Roamers. We toured the Colombia Crest Winery which is the largest winery in the Northwest. Several of the wife half of the new members are quilters! We spent a morning in the only quilt shop in town. Tiny but jam packed with the most awesome fabrics. The larger house on the property is used as a lesson facility and quilt retreat center. Enjoy these pictures.

First One Is On the Quilting Machine

       Let me introduce you to my quilting machine Bella Rosa. Yes we quilters name the girls (machines) we work with. I purchased a Lenni model from American Professional Quilting Association. They are available everyday to talk to you on the phone and help if you have any problems. They also have an on line forum where I have made new friends from all over the USA who are very helpful and friendly. Tom says that this hobby won't buck me off, knock me in the head or run over me and give me a double concussion.

  

       The girls both wanted me to make quilts for them.  Knowing that at age 5 and 7 the quilts would probably get hauled into the backyard for sunbathing, into their play tent in the backyard for playing games and reading, and have Myah the dog napping on them sometimes, I decided to find some inexpensive fabric on sale and save the making of a quilt from a time consuming pattern and expensive fabric for the time when they would really appreciate it and protect it. I wanted them to use the quilts that I make for them now every day. I found some quilt kits on sale on line and so I let the girls pick out the colors that they wanted. After the tops were done they requested a cupcake and their initials be on their quilts. Above is Emma's quilt loaded into the quilting machine.  She chose the current popular color combination of chocolate brown and pink. I started the quilting and ran into trouble right away with the thread breaking and shredding really often. I finally figured out that when the sales person filled my order he sold me needles for the thread size that I am using in the bobbin not the thread in the top of the machine. The needle was too small for the thread. I have ordered new needles and as soon as they arrive I will be getting the project finished.

 

The girls love cupcakes. Kim makes several dozen specially decorated ones for their birthday celebrations. Emma requested root beer float cupcakes this year and Kim invented the recipe and decoration on top so it tasted and looked like a root beer float! My daughter is quite an amazing girl.

Featured Quilter at the 16th Annual Country Quilt Show of Prineville

 Sandy was the featured quilter at the Country quilt show this year. Although she and her husband have a busy life on the farm and have raised 3 boys...she makes time for quilting.  Her first quilt was made years ago as a 4H project.  There are no idle moments in Sandy's life as you can tell by the slide show.

      Here are a few of the quilts from the quilt show that was held in Prineville today.

This is a great optical illusion of waves in the quilt. It is all done by varying the size of the quilt pieces.

I really liked the theme and bright colors of this one.

This quilt featured a collection of Asian inspired fabrics.

The colored striped triangles were made by sewing together a collection of selvages from different fabrics. The light blue squares are three dimensional puffs.

This one changes as you look at it close up and then move back farther and farther. The white pieces start to make wavy lines.    Cool!
